Review of Shame (2011) by Craig T — 30 Oct 2012
Was my pick for the best movie of 2011. Michael Fassbender stars as Brandon Sullivan, a 30-something year old advertising executive, living in New York and suffering from a sex addiction. Carey Mulligan stars as Sissy Sullivan, his cancer-stricken sister, who reenters his life and completely overturns it.
Amazing performances from the both of them, backed up by some great direction, a good script and a killer OST. After seeing this film, I couldn't get it out of my mind for days. A scene of considerable note: Sissy confronts Brandon about his problem, Brandon gets into a mad rage, throws out all his porn, then proceeds to take a run into the night, either to let off steam or an erection (less likely, just throwing it in there).
This is where we get the 'Shame' moment. Or even better was the scene towards the end, where he has a threesome. But it isn't pleasure that shows on his face. It's pain. Masterpiece!
