Review of Shallow Hal (2001) by Frank S — 21 Dec 2009
This movie portrays Jack Black as being this normal guy looking for love...and he finds it. The problem... he can't really see what he's got. He was hypnotized in an elevator, trained to only see someone's inner beauty, not their physical appearance.
It's a lovable film that has a semi-predictable plot. We know that he's going to find out sooner or later the woman he's going out with is 400 pounds. And of course when he does, he's mad, but goes back to the girl, even though she is not what he thought she was.
It lacks a lot of emotion from both characters... or maybe we can't tell because of the huge bodysuit and mask Paltrow wears...
