Danny Boyle's directorial debut is an interesting film that looks into what death and money will do to a friendship. David (Christopher Eccleston), Juliet (Kerry Fox), and Alex (Ewan McGregor) are 20-something flatmates and good friends who are looking for a fourth roommate.

Most of the candidates are simply mocked by the obnoxious group until a mysterious writer known as Hugo (Keith Allen) comes by and piques all of their interests. But when Hugo is found dead in his room with a suitcase full of money, the group of friends must now decide what to do with both the body and the money.

The film is an extremely tight thriller and the performances, especially by Eccleston, are well done. It is interesting to see how this situation devolves and affects these three people who were such great friends.

While Danny Boyle will go on to direct better films (such as Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor and 28 Days Later), this is still an extremely intriguing first effort from one of the best filmmakers currently still working.
