Review of Shall We Dance? (2004) by Julissa L — 12 Mar 2009
I am quite literally in the middle on this remake.
The original was excellent, but like most(all) remakes, they drop the ball in spots.
The Pros:
They captured some of the signature scenes from the original. Most in very good fashion.
The competition scene. The bathroom scene, between Gere and Tucci. Etc.
Jlo is always fun to watch dancing around.
Richard Gere is a good dancer too. As noted from Chicago.
Stanley Tucci is great in his role.
The Cons:
As with most remakes, they changed the story too much.
They added things that didnt need to be there.
Gere's scripting took his character away from the awkward character that was portrayed in the Original. This portrayed him as more of an extrovert.
About equal.
Stanley Tucci took the movie away, as did the actor that he is mimicking from the original. He was awesome.
There was a good deal of bad acting in this towards the beginning/middle beginning. There were times, iw as very aware I was watching a movie.
Over all. decent. not horrible, for a remake.
In hindsight, it was about where I expected it to be.
It is a rare occasion that a remake matches to its predecessor.
