Review of Shaft (2019) by Dawdlingpoet — 28 Nov 2021
This 2019 film (not the previous films of the same name) is alright - its pretty predictable, if you know of the previous films then you'll know youghly what a expect i.e. the sharp witted, cool talking and 'down with the ladies' John Shaft, who tries to show his son how things should be done (mainly in terms of investigating, rather than bedroom activities - mainly!). There's definite friction between son and father, understandably so and it leads to some amusing dialogue but nothing that was really stand out great as such. The action scenes (including gunfights, hand to hand combat etc.) are alright and there's the usual use of music, with soul and funk featured, as would be expected.
Its a fairly entertaining watch, even though the plot is a bit thin but as an action comedy film its alright. Its not the kind of film im likely to remember long after seeing it but its entertaining enough to while away just under the two hours it lasts for. I'll give this a 3 star rating - its ok. Would I recommend it? its worth a watch if it happens to be on TV etc. but I wouldn't go out of your way to pay to see it as such, no.
