Review of Shaft (1971) by Jon P — 03 May 2011
With an award winning musical score and an unforgettable performance from Richard Roundtree, this ultra-cool detective thriller seems almost impossible to dislike. Regarded by many as the quintessential Blaxploitation movie, this stylish 70's flick is undoubtedly a true classic of it's time.
Roundtree's on-screen presence is dazzling, the cinematography is remarkably stylish, and the noir-influenced plot and atmosphere are wonderfully gritty. Shaft is tough, super-cool, achingly memorable and massively entertaining.
