Review of Shaft (1971) by Luis G — 14 Apr 2012
The best part of this pacesetting blaxploitation yarn is definitely the funky score by Isaac Hayes. The amazing music is used to frame John Shaft (Richard Roundtree) and his mission to rescue the kidnapped daughter of a mob boss (Moses Gunn).
As one can readily tell, the plot is a pretty basic run-through of noir tropes. Still, Roundtree's charisma and Hayes' soulful music ultimately make for an entertaining viewing experience.
