Review of Shadows in the Sun (2005) by Private U — 16 Nov 2007
I hardly ever truly dislike movies but this is one of them that I can't help but despise.
I'll put aside my joy at the cinematography, because it was beautiful at times, but how can a film shot in these locations fail to be beautiful?
My joy ended when I realised that there were some truly awful accents. Claire Forlani is English, she's putting on a terrible Italian accent. Where is Keitel from? Doesn't matter he is just himself. And Pacey? He should just go back to making Mighty Duck movies!
I found the story to be over simplified and incredibly obvious. What the hell was the ending about? Cheese that's what.
There were a few good bits of dialogie towards the end but just because the idea of the movie and some emotional speeches are good doesn't give the makers an excuse to ignore the fact that film audiences are usually quite intelligent and expect more. OK maybe not most Americans.
And for all those aspiring artists that felt touched by this I was also touched, but touched to go and make something good. if this can be made then anyone can get money to make movies!
