Review of Shadowboxer (2005) by Lee B — 14 Jun 2010
This movie was surprisingly sexually deviant, or at least I wasn?t expecting it to be more about sex than hits. Cuba Gooding Jr. was very good as the laconic lead and the girl from the Gringhouse movie isn?t bad. Helen Mirren is fun. But why doesn?t Stephen Dorff get more roles. He?s good as the cartoonish goon, but we know he can do a little more than this. He?d be a good mixed emotion villain.
As for the story itself, it tries to play it twisted, but nothing here is particulary new or incredibly interesting. The most interesting this is seeing how it goes with the social storylines. Which it never goes too far, and that may have been a bad thing since it just comes off as lukewarm.
