Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Nick E — 15 Jun 2007
Willem Dafoe is genious. An utterly fabulous film that questions the reality of what you see on screen and inverts the old paradigm of whether life imitates art or otherwise - it's the wrong question to ask.
Rather, does life create art, or the other way around? It suggets so many things - that in film we expose the darkness which is better left unseen, that filming has a vampiric effect. It's kind of brilliant and totally underrated.
