Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Bharat G — 05 Jan 2009
Merhige has put a great idea onto the silver screen. I saw the original Nosferatu (1922) just before this movie for effective comparison. The manner in which he captured certain scenes from the original movie almost as a sub-plot so that the essence of this movie is not lost is masterful. The vampire was not shown as much in the original, and was a tad slow. But, this movie shows the detail in Count Orlock's appearance, and also an apparent ruthless streak in his "aged" form.
One of my favourite movies that showcases the talent of two magnificent actors. John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe take the characters of Max Schreck and Murnau to another level from the great vampire movie of the 1920s - Nosferatu.
