Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Alyssa N — 02 May 2009
I love the extremely clever idea that this movie is based on. I was a little less impressed with the execution, however, since in order to make it work, the characters have to act in ways that are completely implausible, and even as far as the plot is concerned, the whole ploy feels too forced.
The pacing is also weak, with a beginning that's too slow, and an ending that's too rushed. Willem Dafoe is truly great to watch though, and beneath all that make-up you can forget it's him you're watching.
For filmmakers or fans of Nosferatu, this could be an interesting movie to rent.
