Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Jeff A — 04 Jun 2011
There was always something very eerie about Nosferatu. So much so that Shadow of the Vampire's fictional account of the production of Nosferatu could almost be believable. In Shadow,German director F.
W. Murnau hires an actual vampire to play the iconic role of Dracula. This crazy bit of casting has tragic results for the cast and crew, but not so tragic results for the finished film. Murnau strived for realism and thats what he got.
Defoe deserved an oscar for his performance. Malkovich, Izzard and Elwes also give stellar performances.
