Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Baurushan J — 03 Jan 2014
People who believed that actor Max Schreck really was a vampire when the director chose him to film Nosferatu back in the early 1920s in Central Europe, then the rumours can be clarified with this movie as we now have a clear vision of what happened back then with the production, before it was made and the aftermath of this movie.
The story starts off with director Frederick W. Murnau played by John Malkovich who has an obsession with filming his Dracula movie as realistic as possible by any means necessary. because he couldn't afford the rights to his movie from the novel by Bram Stoker, he changed the title of the film to Nosferatu and the main character's name from Count Dracula to Count Orlok.
Murnau mentions that the actors "don't have to act the characters, they have to be the characters" and so therefore, he wants someone who can be Count Orlok. Murnau comes across actor Max Schreck played by Willem Dafoe where they both share a secret together that no one else knows about until Murnau reveals the truth about Max.
I love the old-fashioned story telling in the modern time fashion, I love the relationship between the director and Max Schreck and I love its unique style of its dark atmosphere. Shadow Of The Vampire gets a 10/10.
