Review of Shadow of the Vampire (2000) by Sami X — 29 Aug 2007
A wicked black horror comedy about the filming of Nosferatu that imagines that the lead actor, Max Schreck, is a real vampire. Schreck talks of sadness about his loneliness and infertility (!), whilst munching on the occasional passing flying bat.
" I feed erratically, and often...enormously!" he warns. Sure enough, the shoot goes to hell when the vampire cannot stop eating cast and crew members. Some hilarious death scenes ensue as Schreck picks them off one by one, ominously uttering "I don't think we need the writer any longer.
", "Oh. The script girl. I'll eat her later.", and "Did I kill one of your people, Murnau? I can't remember.".
