Review of Shadow of a Doubt (1943) by Angela V — 31 Jan 2009
A rather underrated film, "Shadow of a Doubt" is one of Hitchcock's personal favorites.
Young Charlie, played by Theresa Wright, is thrilled when her namesake, Uncle Charlie, returns home after galavanting around the country. However, her joy turns to fear when she uncovers her uncle's dirty little secret: he is a serial killer being mercilessly tracked by the police. Can Charlie keep her family out of harm's way without becoming her uncle's next victim?
A good script written by Thornton Wilder (famous author of "Our Town") and Sally Benson (inspiration of the movie "Meet Me in St. Louis") gives Hitch enough material to cut a devestating attack on American suburban life.
