Review of Shade (2003) by J. Dale T — 15 Jun 2004
I actually enjoyed Shade a lot more than I thought that I would. Firstly, I love poker, secondly, I love card tricks. The mechanic (slang for cheating card dealer) in this movie is awesome. At the beginning and ending credits, they show the different ways of cheating while shuffling all while looking through a glass table. Holy geez, I now vow to never get into a game of high stakes poker, unless I can afford to give the money away. If I ever played anybody like this, I don't think I would be able to tell. I think it's worth watching just for these scenes alone. I would've given it a seven but Stallone looked like a mannequin with all the make-up he wore, and all the plot twists during the movie gave the biggest one away to me. Overall, enjoyable.
By the way, I really do not like stomach viruses. I spent more time Tuesday in the restroom then at my desk.
The next movie of movie night was 50 First Dates, once again I wasn't expecting much, once again, I was surprised. The humor was immature but enough to get me to laugh out loud a lot. (Anything involving a walrus vomiting up on a German she-male is immature and hilarious to me) I think that Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler have a great romantic on-screen relationship. They are funny together. I liked both of them in Wedding Singer but Drew really showed a lot more sides to her than the goofball stuff that I'm used to seeing. Good movie night.
Seen as I read almost two a month, I'm going to start a few book reviews in this journal too.
