Review of Shade (2003) by E S — 11 Jun 2009
Absolutely absurd and a waste of time for anyone who knows anything about poker. It is amazing to me why, when a movie is made about a certain subject, that a technical advisor who actually knows something about the subject is not hired.
To start with, there are NO high stakes poker games where a player can win a pot simply by betting more chips than his opponent has available. If one opponent goes all in and the other has fewer chips, then that player matches the bet as best he can and the other player removes the uncalled portion. Since this came up as important in several hands in the movie, for that reason alo0ne this is a dud.
Secondly, I might be mistaken, but refused to watch any part of this loser a second time, but the Dean was dealt a pair of kings to start with on the final hand..so what were they babbling about trip queens at the end?
And of a much more minor note, the word is restaurateur, not restauranteur. Perhaps the producer could at least have sprung for a dictionary or an script editor.
I won't even address the muddled plot and poor film editing.
