Review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) by Dan H — 31 Mar 2013
The film is wacky, bizarre, insane, silly and awesome. It's also got numerous WTF moments (I lost count), and some pretty crazy celeb cameos (Aerosmith??!!!! As the villains??!!!!.....need I say more?! Also, ALICE COOPER AND STEVE MARTIN!!!)) not to mention it stars THE Peter Frampton.
One of the film's weakest points is story and character. The story is your generic from the bottom to the top story mixed with a ridiculous villain who's got an evil plot. Watch it for the spectacular musical numbers (ok, SOME are spectacular, there are also those that are just plain bad: Getting Better is relegated to background music for exposition) , don't worry about the story.
It's also bound to be more enjoyable if you watch it while high (In fact, I'd say ONLY watch this if you are high). Best parts of the film are the first 15 minutes (one of the best movie-openings), Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, Come Together (performed by Aerosmith), and Get Back.
