Review of Sgt. Bilko (1996) by Peter D — 27 Mar 2008
Hardly the greatest Steve Martin fan, but you'll get laughs out of it if you like Martin. I always laugh when I watch it... always.
It was directed by one of the men behind the BBC comedy series "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" as well as the great comedy film "My Cousin Vinny".
The opening sequence (and, indeed, the first 10 to 15 minutes) is pretty solid. There are so many throw-away lines and gags that you'll pick something up.
As always, Phil Hartman is perfect.
I understand this is quite different from Phil Silvers' Bilko... so that might get in the way for a number of folks.
