Review of S.F.W. (1995) by Arin D — 07 Dec 2007
Great mid-90s soundtrack (grunge: Soundgarden overdose, GWAR, Suicidal Tendencies, metal!). And oh, Stephen Dorff doing Stephen Dorff-ish things like prancing around in all his 5'8" glory, as a bluecollar punk with a massive dose of nihilism, all hopped up on canned beer.
You appreciate that the story is told in the ex-post world (from the survivor's point of view), rather than going through the actual hostage situation and potentially agonizing over the motivations of the Split Image 'terrorists'.
I think the movie had a few good things to say about media-ted terror/SoCal cultural vacuum/celebrity cults, etc. But nothing you haven't read/seen before. Watch out for a very young Tobey Maguire acting like a grunge teenager, torn denim shorts, etc.
Ah, good times.
