Review of Sexy Beast (2001) by Clarissa C — 29 May 2009
A unique, if not grand, metaphor rich slice of British crime drama that takes a more mature air than Guy Ritchie films. The opening is great, and the plot plays out somewhat like a Hemingway novel, what with the dialogue and the actions of a group of friends living the good life when strife occurs.
The initial metaphor of the boulder slamming into the pool and landing in between the two hearts (the idea that their life and love is disrupted abruptly and cruelly by an unforeseen and brutal force) is well played and in fact stands throughout the movie, book ending the movie nicely.
