Review of Sexy Beast (2001) by Olli H — 06 Aug 2010
"Crime thriller" about a retired gangster, who gets a visitor from his past and a proposition of one last job. Sounds familiar? Well in "Sexy Beast", the pattern is diffirent, because the main character Gary (Ray Winstone) has no intention of coming out of retirement.
Ray Winstone does an ok performance but there is the tour-de-force performance from one Ben Kingsley that explodes to the screen. His character Don is the very definition of an asshole and a bully, who just doesn't know how to function in the society that, in his mind, defies him in every way.
In the end, "Sexy Beast" is quite strange experience and it is hard to fathom to what genre does it really belong to.
