Review of sex, lies, and videotape (1989) by Bob S — 31 May 2009
Many moons before Brockovich & Traffic, Soderbergh directed this indie gem about (you guessed it) sex. However, donâ??t presume this will be some skin flick, about pornography, or an excuse for gratuitous nudity.
Instead, the film compares sexual behaviours of four connected characters: The prude, the adulterer, the slut, and the impotent. The result is seductive. MacDowell (the prude) discovering that sex isnâ??t just another household chore is especially intriguing â?? her turn on â??videotapeâ?? is one of the most sensual moments I have ever seen on film.
