Review of sex, lies, and videotape (1989) by Raja N — 23 Aug 2010
I feel much the same way about this as I do The Girlfriend Experience. Fascinating, absolutely riveting as a storytelling and technical exercise, but not conventionally involving. I was surprised by the superb performances coming from a cast that I usually wouldn't think much of, and Soderbergh's hand is assured even in his debut.
It's a difficult film to really talk about on first impression - seems like a work that is meant to be dwelled on. I'll be sure to revisit it in a year or so and see what I think then.
