Review of Sex and the City (2008) by Tony V — 09 Jun 2010
After watching SATC2, I decided to relive what SATC1 was like and I now realise that in my haste, I was prolly reviewing SATC2 through rose coloured glasses. 4/5 was maybe a touch too high and 3.5/5 would have been more appropriate.
SATC1 reminds us that the whole thing was always about the modern age woman living in modern society and that through four girls somehow women could find something to connect themselves with each character. That four girls in NYC could connect and rely on each other for support and friendship was something that women also wanted.
This essence that made the TV series so appealing was lost in SATC2.
Sure the superficials like the shoes and bags and clothes were there, sometimes too exuberant with the whole Abu Dhabi thing and all, but the true essence of friendship and love and romance was lost.
There are glimpses of it in SATC2, but SATC1 just highlights the misdirection that Michael Patrick King has taken.
