Review of Sex and the City 2 (2010) by Daniel K — 21 Dec 2010
1: The scene when the nanny's considerable and bra-less breasts get sprayed with water by the baby is hilarious (a couple other scenes were laugh-out-loud funny as well). However, this was by far the high point of the film.
The rest of it is pretty much too ridiculous for words, as of course this part was too, but ridiculous in a good way. The film includes numerous examples of just about everything that is wrong with Hollywood.
Essentially, as soon as they tried to make a small screen gem work on the big screen it was a failure. The glitz, superficiality, hyper-polished dialogue, glossiness, and artificial nature of everything before our eyes simple gets old.
I can't recall the last time I saw a film with these kinds of production values that was so obviously and sickeningly artificial. The market scene is particularly awful. No one and I mean no one could mistake this for the real world.
The beat-you-over-the-head obviousness of the message and themes doesn't help things much either. I greatly enjoyed the television show, but the fifth character in it was NYC. The fifth character here appears to be the inside of a gaudy sound stage.
To say the film lacks subtlety is quite an understatement.
