Review of Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (2010) by John S — 29 Jul 2010
I'd been wanting to watch this film for some time, partly based on the good doctor Kermode's great reviews of Andy Serkis filling the lead role of Ian Dury in this somewhat biopic of the Blockhead years of his life.
That being said I can't help but pretend I was underwhelmed by this movie, not for Serkis's acting which was great but the plot and narrative of the film, which wasn't.
I struggled to remain interested in the film, not least in the first parts where you don't know what the intention of the film is supposed to be. It did get better over the latter half but not enough for me to give it anything other than a mediocre one star.
There wasn't much to laugh at, cry at or think about in this film, I am sorry I didnt like it that much but this is my honest opinion. Could do better.
