Review of Sex and Death 101 (2007) by Tj M — 03 Feb 2009
What started as a compromise at the video store turned into one of the most pleasant suprises in a long time. Having seen the trailers my interest was slightly piqued, but since I have been losing my faith in Hollywood lately, I had a feeling I was about to be dissapointed.
How wrong I was. Meet Roderick Blank (Simon Baker), who was just given something most men would kill for-- a list containg the names of every woman has ever and will ever sleep with. What follow is one of the most original storylines I have seen out of Hollywood for a long time. There are even a few curveballs that caught me off guard. Fred (Patton Oswalt) was the hysterical relief in an already funny movie. He is one of the funniest men around right now, and I would love to see him get some more leading type roles.
I thought Winona Ryder's Death Nell was totally underdevolped. It just seems that is was all trying to be crammed in the last 5 minutes and that didnt really work.
The only real let down was the ending, after the earlier curveballs, I saw this one coming like a slow pitched softball.
