Review of Severance (2015) by Michele S — 03 Jul 2010
Guy says, "I'm not saying that I fancy anyone in particular. I'm just saying that if I did like someone...I wouldn't know the best way to approach them. Dating is complicated in England.".
Other guy says, "What are you talking about? English birds ain't complicated. You buy them a Bacardi Breezer and they'll ride you like Seabiscuit.".
No, this isn't a love story...this is a good 'ol fashion slash 'em up thriller mingled in with comedy that I haven't quite seen work so well in a horror movie before.
A few coworkers travel out to a lodge for a teambuilding session. As they are driving down the road they come across a log that is blocking their path. The bus driver refuses to drive down an alternate path. The team lead decides they are all better off walking the rest of the way to the lodge. He's guessing it's not that far because it only shows an inch of a line marked on the map so he assumes it's about a mile. Ha ha! Anyway, they eventually find the "lodge." Along the way, someone is lurking in the woods watching them. Once they settle in, random strange events start to occur and the next day they decide to leave. Leaving is not as easy as they think it will be.
Some situations to look forward to:
- Two girls get trapped in a hole in the ground (Does taking off their clothes to link a rope ever really help?).
- Head goes rolling (Does he still see what's going on after he's decapitated?).
- Man loses leg in bear trap (Does putting his leg in the refrigerator ever really help?).
- Girl shooting machine gun with unzipped jacket and boobies slightly exposed while running (Does she shoot the intended target?).
They do explain the history of the "lodge" so you have an idea of who it is that is tormenting them. The acting is actually good for this kind of low-key horror-fest. Overall, this movie was pretty fun...the action, suspense and hint of comedy made it worth the watch.
I'd like to add that Maggie is my hero! Enjoy!
P.S. There is a movie blooper in here...well at least one that I found to be very obvious. If you watch the movie...let me know if you figure it out. :-).
