Review of Severance (2006) by Ian B — 19 Nov 2011

One of the best surprises to come along in the horror genre in quite a while. Usually I try not to buy into the hype machine because 9 times out of 10 I'm disappointed, but this was one movie that actually delivered! A very tight script with some nice dark comedic moments, a great ensemble cast and a ton of suspense and bloodshed.

I really liked the realistic approach the movie took by not having the villains be the same old deformed people or mutants we've seen a zillion times in these kinds of movies. I thought it made the film a hell of a lot scarier.

I also liked the fact this movie actually took the time to develop it's characters before the shit hit the fan. I honestly can't remember the last time a film like this impressed me so much. I just kept waiting for it to go downhill like so many horror films do these days and it never did.

I'd even go so far as to put it in the same league as Deliverance. Trust me, see this movie NOW!
