Review of Seventh Son (2014) by Ron M — 06 Feb 2015
Okay, let me start this by admitting a bias: my daughter, Laura K. MacDonald, was Julian Moore's stand-in in this movie. So I went to see it, in spite of the critic's reviews. And, trust me on this, this is an entertaining show!!
Okay, no Oscars, but what is wrong with a show with lots of action, a great lead character ( Jeff Bridges is truly very good in this) and a good enough story? Add to that very good effects, fantastic scenery, grade A production quality, and you have a great night out. Sure, it is like many other shows, but aren't most of them? If you like 300, or Lord of the Rings 1, 2, 3, ..., etc., you will like this show plenty.
So: Don't listen to the critics. I have followed the press on this show. It was getting "bad reviews" even before it was in the can. Critics can be a lemming-like lot. They hear it is bad and they all go along. Hey critics: I know you all have a lot of shows to see, but if you don't like the job enough to do it right, then stop doing it. My two cents, anyway.
