Review of Seven Years in Tibet (1997) by Steven M — 25 Sep 2010
This movie, based on the autobiographical accounts of one man Heinrich Harrer, is about his journey through Tibet. Part of the journey, like it or not, and obviously some do not like it, but I did, is about spirituality.
It shows the meeting of a wild westerner, among others (including the power hungry Chinese), and Tibetan culture, apropos for today's Internationalization of the world, especially since Tibet remains under Chinese occupation.
The acting was good, but not an artistic stretch for any; still very well done. I am an amateur at these things, but exploration of spirituality is a topic sorely missing in movies. It's is not a great movie, not a "must see," but I am glad I saw it.
I give it 4 stars since it is a good story, even though it is a bit indulgent of its author.
