Review of Seven Samurai (1954) by Andrew M — 15 Nov 2010
This timeless feature from Kurosawa was the original action / adventure stone cast into the pool of cinema, and it's ripples helped shape and create the genres we know so well today. The acting somber, the cinematography cold, every one of the three acts has a touch of genius that carries throughout until the third and final hour.
Akira's mule Mifune returns, and again is terrific in his role, but my personal favorite is still Takashi Shimura. Not even Yul Brynner could dethrone him.
