Review of Seven Psychopaths (2012) by Matt L — 22 May 2013
Writer/Director Martin McDonagh nearly breaks down the 4th wall in this self-ridiculing gangster flick. It's a challenging script because there isn't much mystery or surprise in the plot when the characters keep verbally explaining where it's going, however, McDonagh does take the storytelling down some interesting paths, keeping the actors on their toes; it's one thing to perform well within the boundaries of well-established genres, but to pave new roads within well-established genres isn't easy.
With that being said, I wish the plot was a little tighter and that the conclusion served the title.
It's easily enjoyable, however I don't feel I need to see it again.
