Review of Seven Psychopaths (2012) by Christian C — 24 Mar 2014
I guess take two parts Adaptation., throw in seven parts of psychopath, and you get something not dissimilar to Seven Psychopaths.
It flirts with greatness without actually kneeling to such a thing. A nicely convoluted script helps propel some excellent performances (namely Walken, with a nod to Harrelson as well), and helps counteract the lesser performances (Rockwell).
I think I would have liked this more if the meta aspects had been toned down a smidgen. As it is, it feels like a violently, jokey Adaptation., which I honestly wasn't expecting at all.
I mean, who goes into a movie about Psychopaths expecting a Kaufman retread? And it's not a bad movie (four stars, after all), but it feels like it could have been so much more if some pacing issues were ironed out and a couple of different actors utilized.
But what do I know.
