Review of Seven Psychopaths (2012) by Kevin R — 18 Jan 2014
Billy, you're good to go; or, Billy, you've got VD...or Chlamydia or shit.
A struggling screen writer is trying to put together a story involving an assassin. His eccentric best friend tries weird things to inspire him. As an example, his friend's current primary occupation is dog retrieval. He will also occasionally steal them. While executing a dog steal, the writer gets involved in the heist making him a target of the dog's owner...who just happens to be a mobster.
"I didn't mean to break his nose. His nose just happened to be right in front of where I was punching.".
Martin McDonagh, director of In Bruges, delivers Seven Psychopaths in his second major motion picture. The storyline for this film is actually pretty cool and stylish in a Desperado kind of way. The action scenes were excellent and the characters and dialogue were well written. The cast also delivers very entertaining performances and the cast includes Colin Ferrell, Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell, Woody Harrelson, and Abbie Cornish.
"You think I'm not serious just because I carry a rabbit?".
We randomly DVR'd this off HBO recently and found it surprisingly entertaining. Ferrell's last 6-10 pictures have been dreadful, so I didn't have high hopes for this. Fortunately, the supporting cast is amazing and all the characters blend together perfectly. I strongly recommend seeing this film and it is borderline good enough to add to your DVD collection.
"I'm nervous. I got chick killing shakes.".
Grade: B.
