Review of Seven Pounds (2008) by Jon W — 29 Jul 2014
The greatest asset this movie has is Will Smith's performance and a very mysterious plot. The first two thirds of it have a lot of bumpy moments and are quite frankly, boring in places. However, the film's tearjerking and emotionally resonant finale makes viewing the whole thing worthwhile.
When you finally understand what actually what was going on during this entire movie, you can't help but realize why it was kept away from the audience until the end. You also at that moment realize what kind of movie this is and it will break you in this final twenty minutes.
It's not necessarily a movie that will make you cry (although if you do, it is completely understandable), but it is one that will emotionally effect anyone. If it was executed better the film could have consistently entertained instead of becoming a bit of a drag in places.
Nonetheless, the movie is a heartbreaker with a lot of thought put into it and for that it is worth at least one watch.
