Review of Seven Pounds (2008) by Adam S — 18 Nov 2013
The way this film plays out, it always feels like "Seven Pounds" has the potential to be a brilliant drama. Unfortunately Will Smith and his "Pursuit of Happyness" director Gabriele Muccino couldn't make this one work.
Smith stars alongside Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson, Barry Pepper, Michael Ealy and Octavia Spencer in what is an able cast, but it's undone by a plot that is poorly explained, and a lacklustre script.
I was going to give bonus points for the appearance of the awesome box jellyfish (even though there are technically more venemous species in the world), but I had to take them back for the reprehensible manner in which the film decides a vegetarian diet for a dog is an acceptable thing (protip: It is only acceptable if you wish Fido to die. Sorry to burst the bubble on that one). What a disgusting message.
