Review of Seven Days in Utopia (2011) by Emily Y — 11 Feb 2012
This was a very typical sports movie with a meltdown, a time for soul searching, a life changing mentor, and the awe-inspiring moment when clarity reigns and a new path in life is carved out for the troubled yet gifted athlete.
The cast had a foundation of heavy hitters in Duval and Leo, but having Black as the lead was a bit lacking (although he is improving). This movie is laced with themes about family, friends, and faith, with the ultimate lesson being one that reinforces the concept of not measuring our own worth by any one particular thing.
An alright movie, albiet an extremely stereotypical sports movie, with a bit of a different ending.
