Review of Seven Days in May (1964) by Jared G — 04 Mar 2004
This may be a perfect film, because I could not find a single flaw in this film. Kirk Douglas delivers probably one of my favorite performances by him in this 1960s drama following a fictional coup d'etate of the President of the United States by the heads of the military.
I found myself watching in awe as not only a great story unfolded, but also the manners in which it was unfolded. The sound engineering and cinemetography were both very creative and impressed me with most every scene.
There were also a lot of very creative ways to incorporate the date and time into the film while keeping it a part of the whole mise-en-scene. Also, I'd like to point out, this film was released at a very dangerous time (1964 I believe), because rumors were spreading that the U.
S. Government had had President JFK assasinated and this deals with some of the same subject matter. Through all the great acting in this film, I'd say that of actress Ava Gardner jumped out at me as the best.
She put on an amazing performance and I would say worthy of an oscar. This was one great film.
