Review of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) by Steve S — 23 Nov 2010
Well, I finally got around to watching it. I've got the Stephen Vincent Benet story 'The Sobbin' Women' to read, but wow, what a twisted story. If it weren't for the outstanding musical numbers this could be easily remade as a modern torture movie: 7 lonely men kidnap 7 unwilling women! Julie Newmar is radiant, Russ Tamblyn is light on his feet and Keen and Powell make a charming couple.
The songs themselves are unfortunately forgettable, but the dancing is eyepoppingly fantastic.
