Review of Seven Beauties (1975) by Suveera A — 05 Apr 2008
Oh Yeah...Outside Maestro Fellini's work, this has got to be absolutely one of the most enduring and greatest gemstone films of all Italian cinema. Deep, dark and harrowingly disturbing because of the subject and content matter, this is one strong political statement of survival, with a brilliant Oscar-nominated Best Actor performance by Giannini (up against Stallone in Rocky and De Niro in Taxi Driver).
Surprisingly, they ALL unfairly lost that precious award. Director Wertmuller is definitely not to be trifled with - she deservedly was nominated as Academy Award Best Director (the FIRST woman ever to acheive this honour - Congratulations!).
