Review of Set It Off (1996) by Tommy M — 19 Oct 2010
The setup and the motivation felt somewhat contrived, but the results are not entirely as routine as one may expect.
All four of the main actresses deliver great performances and make you care about what will happen when the guns come out. There are also a great deal of surprises mixed in with the obligatory plot devices, so that it feels evenly balanced between the action and the emotion. My only question is, why can't Queen Latifah do more movies like this?
