Managed to be pretty creepy without the excessive use of gore, which is quite difficult for a horror film to accomplish. The occasional use of extreme close-ups and slow motion didn't impress me, but it didn't really annoy me either.
Also, listening to Simon's voice on the Session 9 tape near the end was quite unnerving, especially when watching alone at 2:00am.
