Review of Session 9 (2001) by Bastet 0 — 09 Jan 2010
When it comes to my horror, there are two things I can't resist. Creepy old buildings and mental institutions (usually hand in hand).
Session 9 has an interesting premise, but sort of falls flat. It's a made for TV filming on something that could have more potential. In the last 10 minutes, you expect some awesome revelation but really don't get anything of substance.
The cinematography follows in the same vein as 80s B horror, but is definitely not a slasher.
I would have to say it would take a wuss to be scared or thrilled by this sucker. The 'killer' is obvious throughout the whole thing, especially when you have various clues (such as the jiff peanut butter). In the end, it was like everyone had to die because the movie wanted them to.
In classifying it with horror, it's difficult. There is murder and lobotomies, but not gore. There is suggested possession, but no ghost really. Pscyhological thriller? i'd have to say it legitimately tickled my brain to classify it as that. Not a HORRIBLE movie, but sorely overrated.
