Review of Session 9 (2001) by Adam R — 15 Apr 2010
When will filmmakers learn that multiple personality disorder is a lazy, inane plot device? It made the last half-hour of "Fight Club" substantially suffer, it completely butchered "High Tension," and it.... didn't really damage "Primal Fear," but that movie was more about gaming the system than mental illness.
In the case of "Session 9," it transforms a boring movie into a preposterous movie. The performers (chief among them David Caruso) do an excellent job of playing intriguing, multifaceted characters. Unfortunately, any psychological tension is undone by poor pacing an an absurdly stupid twist (see above).
