In 2005, Jennifer Aniston starred in a very off-character thriller called "Derailed" with Clive Owen. During the shoot, Jen had to continually remind herself that she was no longer playing Rachel Green on "Friends". It was so unlike anything you had ever seen from Jen.

Remember when Meg Ryan starred opposite Tom Hanks in "Sleepless in Seattle" or "You've Got Mail"? This movie is so unlike anything you've seen from Meg Ryan.

A good premise for a stage play, but difficult to find either lead character's cause to champion: The wife who duct tapes her adulterous husband until he falls in love with her again. OK, except this husband (Timothy Hutton) is not very likable, an Meg Ryan's wife Louise is more creepy than comic. Since the wife is seen as a complete nut, all sympathy goes to the husband.

This could have been a fine French farce, a la Mollier, but in this case, the verbal bantering is mean-spirited. The plot twist involving the gardener who ties up the wife and the girlfriend could have been a riot to watch. The tone is completely off on this one.
