Review of Series 7 (2001) by Ryan D — 22 Oct 2007
Saw this for the first time in ages last night. An enjoyable film that doesn't quite live up to it's potential. The recreation of the style of overblown American reality shows like Cops and Joe Millionaire is spot on even down to Will Arnett's pitch perfect narration.
Yet, a weak storyline and unnatural performances make it feel more like WWE. The concept of a future death sport televised by an ominous media company is hardly origianal - see Rollerball, Death Race 2000, Running Man or Le Prix du Danger, but the reality TV presentation does give it a topical and fresh feel.
It's a shame the ending is so confused and disappointing.
