Review of Serial Mom (1994) by Erin S — 31 Jan 2009
Hilarious satire that doesn't skip a beat. John Waters has proven himself capable of notorious bad taste comedy king. Serial Mom might be more "mainstream" than say, Pink Flamingos, but the humor is not sacrificed at all. Kathleen Turner is amazing as Beverly, the closeted homicidal maniac who kills people who don't fit into her concept of the way life should be. If you don't recycle...watch out! If you mess with her family...watch out! If you you don't wear your seatbelt...watch out. It's a ghoulish little homage to the batty old dame sub genre that was so popular in the 60's with stars like Bette Davis and Joan Crawford getting to ham it up as some crazy old broad. Turner fills the shoes of Davis and Crawford quite well.
A must see for fans of DARK comedy!
